Here are some tips from Action Air to keep your home safe and energy efficient while you’re gone.
- Adjust your thermostat.
Save energy while you are away by turning your heat down, but not off. Setting your thermostat to 60°F will prevent your pipes from freezing while you are gone. - Turn off your main water line.
A running toilet or a leaking faucet can waste a tremendous amount of water. - Unplug anything electrical that’s not needed.
Before you leave, go around your house and unplug any electrical devices that don’t need to stay on. Such as portable fans, TV, coffee maker, computers, chargers, etc. These devices, even if powered down uses power in the background. This will save on your electric bill. - Set your lights on a timer.
Keep a few lamps plugged in and on a timer to make it look like someone is home and deter thieves from thinking the house is empty. - Be careful with your social media posts.
We often love to share how much fun we are having on vacation with friends and family, but criminals are also watching social media posts to see who is away from their homes. Don’t let your home be a target. - And most importantly… is your HVAC winter ready?
